The Application Drivers theme

GSRC Application Drivers Theme

The Application Drivers theme is an incubator for exciting and relevant application developments within the GSRC. The theme works to create a vibrant research team that drives application requirements into technology development, while at the same time benefiting application research through close working relationships with technology researchers in the center. The members of the theme are application-oriented researchers, focused on pushing the envelope of their respective application domains, with systems backgrounds, so as to provide the disposition necessary to form substantive collaborations with the technology researchers.

It is the goal of this theme to capture emerging applications in the enterprise, consumer and defense market segments, and provide application artifacts (e.g., algorithms, code, constraints, use-cases) through an application repository that drives research in the technology themes, and develop test-beds that enable researchers to test out their solutions within these applications. The drivers being pursued are high-value applications to benefit the GSRC:

Infrastructure and Mobile Driver: The Princeton Application Repository for Shared-Memory Computers (PARSEC)

Infrastructure and Mobile Driver: Gigascale Computer Graphics (algorithms that scale to planetary sizes, with petabytes of geometric detail and millions of participants)

Sensor Platform Driver: Body Sensing (development of next-generation health monitoring applications targeted to energy-frugal emerging sensor platforms)

Mobile Driver: Visual Sonification (transformation of visual data into sound, a process which allows blind persons to see their surrounding non-invasively, using their hearing)
