Research Overview:  Frequency-Agile Cognitive Radio Base Station

The target of this project is to design a frequency-agile base Station for TV band Cognitive radio. The transmitter of the base station consists of Digital Waveform Synthesizer (DWS), Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) and the analog front end. The baseband waveforms with various modulation schemes are directly synthesized in digital domain by DWS block. By utilizing the proposed sub-Nyquist rate conversion technique, the DAC converts the sampled digital waveforms into continuous-time analog waveforms and enhances image spectrum located in the target channel. The advantage of this transmitter architecture is to minimize the analog complexity, such as the analog mixer and frequency synthesizer in the conventional architecture. System-level simulation and analysis of this cognitive base station are done in Matlab. The prototype system of the proposed transmitter architecture will be implemented in the future.
