Research Overview: Identifying, Quantifying and Extracting Parallelism in Applications
My research focusses on characterizing the parallelism present in applications and extracting that parallelism within an implicit parallelization framework. This involves developing a model to quantify parallelism available in applications, and using the model to decide a parallelization strategy for single-threaded applications on multi-core or multi-threaded architectures with support for implicit paarallelization. The model also points out the bottlenecks to program parallelization both in the architecture and applications, and my research also aims at working on techniques to alleviate some of these bottlenecks.
