Bio:Todd Austin is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at University of Michigan. His research is in the areas of computer architecture and computer system analysis. Dr. Austin recently joined the faculty from Intel where he was a Senior Computer Architect in the Microcomputer Research Labs. While at Intel, he led the development of performance analysis tools used by Intel researchers and product teams to evaluate future microprocessor designs. Todd received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1996.

Dr. Austin leads the SimpleScalar Project, an open-source development that is building computer architecture analysis tools used widely throughout academia and industry. Today, nearly 1/3 of all papers published in top computer architecture conferences use the SimpleScalar tools to evaluate their designs. Currently, his research group is exploring dynamic checking techniques to reduce the cost of computer system verification. In addition, he is working in the area of application specific processor design, where he has developed efficient architectures for cryptography and speech processing.
