Mary Jane Irwin

Bio:Dr. Irwin received her Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Illinois in 1977. Her research and teaching interests include embedded and mobile computing systems design, low power design, and electronic design automation. She has more than 270 refereed conference and journal publications and has supervised twenty-one PhD's in computer science and engineering and electrical engineering. Dr. Irwin received an Honorary Doctorate from Chalmers University, Sweden in 1997 and the Penn State Engineering Society's Premier Research Award in 2001. She was named a Fellow of IEEE in 1995, a Fellow of ACM in 1996, and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2003.

Dr. Irwin is currently serving as chair of the NSF's Computer Information Sciences and Engineering Directorate's Advisory Committee, as a member of the Technical Advisory Board of the Army Research Lab, as the Editor-in-Chief of ACM'sTransaction on Design Automation of Electronic Systems, and as an elected member of the Computing Research Association's Board of Directors. In the past she has served as an elected member of the IEEE Computer Society's Board of Governors, of ACM's Council, and as Vice President of ACM.
