Bio:Girish Vishnu Varatkar received his bachelor of technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, in 2001, and his master of science degree from the Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, in 2003. He received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering (ECE) at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign (UIUC) in 2008. His research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including error tolerant and energy efficient VLSI architectures, digital signal processing for communication systems, and distributed estimation and detection. He is particularly interested in error-tolerant multimedia and communication systems design. He has interned at Qualcomm Inc., San Diego, in the area of SOC verification as an interim engineering intern, and at the Circuits Research Laboratory, Hillsboro, Intel in the area of high speed digital design as Engineering Research Intern. He received Transactions on VLSI Systems Best Paper Award from the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society in the year 2005. He was awarded the C. R. Allen Outstanding International Student Award in 2008 from UIUC for demonstrating academic excellence and research potential. Currently, he is an employee at Qualcomm Flarion Technologies, New Jersey.
