Introduction
Ashok Sudarsanam, 13 Sep 1999

During the past two months, we have closely studied several compiler infrastructures for potential use in the Mescal research project.  The primary aspects of these infrastructures that we have analyzed are:

  • coding style
  • available data structures and algorithms

We have studied the following compiler infrastructures:

  • SUIF 1.0 / MachSUIF
  • IMPACT 2.33a
  • Trimaran 2.0
  • EDG
  • Apogee
The following articles analyze each of these infrastructures in detail.  Based on our analyses, we have narrowed down our infrastructure choices to SUIF  1.0 and Trimaran 2.0.  The final article discusses why we believe Trimaran is better suited for our research purposes.
